Ryan is a native of the Parkersburg, WV community. He is a 1998 graduate of Parkersburg High School and a 2003 graduate of West Virginia University. On Aug 27, 2019, he was proud to become the third generation Fitzer to have ownership in Intra-State Insurance, following in the footsteps of his grandfather and Intra-State Insurance founder, Fred Fitzer (1983-1991), and his father, Eric Fitzer, VP/Owner (1985-2019). His uncle, Al Hawkins, was the founding VP and acted as President from 1991-2019.

After graduating from West Virginia University in 2003, he worked for Mountain State Blue Cross Blue Shield/Highmark of WV. In 2010 he decided to become an agent. He began working for Garlow Insurance Agency located in South Charleston, WV, where he assumed the role of a fully licensed life, health, and property-casualty insurance broker with a primary focus on working with businesses to oversee all aspects of their insurance program.

Becoming an active and involved member of his community has become a priority and a passion for him. While living in Charleston, Ryan served as Chairman of the Charleston Rotary Community Investment Committee, where he was awarded the Paul Harris Fellow recognition by his fellow Rotarians. He also served on the board Hometown Heroes Boxing and Fitness gym, where he was a volunteer coach and mentor. Ryan is currently a member of the Parkersburg Rotary Club and serves on the board of both the YMCA of Parkersburg and the Boys & Girls Club of Parkersburg. He is also a certified Rock Steady boxing instructor. Rock Steady Boxing is a nonprofit organization that gives people with Parkinson’s disease hope by improving their quality of life through a non-contact boxing-based fitness curriculum.
